How to use this test
Set your volume to a low, safe level first. Play the left channel, then the right, and confirm each tone comes from the matching side only. Use Play Both to check the two channels are centered and balanced, and press Stop to end the tone at any time.

Common mistakes
- Testing at full volume. A 440 Hz tone can be piercing. Start low and raise it only if you need to.
- Judging channels on a mono device. A single earbud or a mono speaker cannot prove left and right are separate.
- Leaving enhancements on. Spatial audio or an EQ preset can blur or shift where each channel appears to come from.
- Blaming the headphones too soon. A flipped system balance slider produces the same reversed-channel symptom as bad hardware.
- A half-seated plug. A jack or adapter that is not fully inserted often drops one channel entirely.
FAQ
Why do my left and right channels sound reversed?
Reversed channels usually come from swapped speaker cables or a flipped left/right balance setting in your system audio. Swap the physical cables, or reset the balance slider to center.
I hear the left tone from both sides. What is wrong?
That points to mono output. A mono Bluetooth profile, a single connected speaker, or a spatial-audio enhancement that collapses stereo can all cause it. Disable enhancements and confirm the output device is running in stereo.
Does this work with Bluetooth headphones?
Yes, but some Bluetooth headsets switch to a mono hands-free profile during calls. Make sure the headphones are connected in stereo media mode before testing.
