Test your webcam online, choose from available cameras, and preview your camera directly in your browser.

Webcam preview

Choose a camera, click start, allow access if prompted, and your webcam preview should appear below.

Choose the camera you want to test.

How to use this tester

Choose the camera you want to test, click start, and allow camera access if your browser asks. If the preview appears correctly, your webcam is working in the browser.

Tips for success

  • Make sure the browser has permission to use your camera.
  • If another app is using the webcam, it may not be available here.
  • Built-in and USB webcams often appear as separate devices.
  • Test lighting, framing, and focus before important meetings or recordings.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting another app has the camera. Video-call apps, OBS, and streaming tools hold the camera exclusively. Close them, then click Refresh Devices.
  • Reading "no preview" as a broken camera. A denied permission looks the same as a dead cam. Check the browser's site-permission setting first.
  • Testing the wrong device. Laptops list a built-in cam and any external webcam separately. Pick the right one from the dropdown.
  • Judging image quality in poor light. A grainy preview is usually the room, not the sensor. Test in even, front-facing light.
  • Expecting an iOS third-party browser to work. On iPhone and iPad, only Safari is granted camera access.

FAQ

Why is my webcam not listed?

Some browsers hide device names until permission has been granted at least once. Try clicking start first, then refresh devices.

Why is my webcam not showing up?

Common reasons include blocked permissions, another app using the camera, or the webcam being disabled in your device settings.

Does this save or record video?

This tester is intended only to preview the webcam live in your browser.

Does this work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. On iOS, Safari must be used, third-party browsers don't have camera access on iPhone or iPad. On Android, Chrome, Firefox, and most major browsers work. The tester will ask for permission; grant it and the front or rear camera preview appears. To switch between front and rear cameras on mobile, use the device selector in the tester.

How do I test multiple cameras on one computer?

If you have more than one camera (built-in laptop camera plus an external webcam, for example), the tester shows a dropdown listing all detected devices. Pick the one you want to test. If a camera is missing from the list, another app (video call, streaming software, OBS) may have exclusive access, close those apps and refresh the page. Unplugging and reconnecting USB cameras usually refreshes the browser's device list too.
